Silvis School District Picked for Nationwide Program to Improve Student Mental Health From KWQC, the Silvis School District is one of 15 districts nationwide to participate in a pilot program aimed at improving mental health among students. The District Comprehensive Approach (DCA) program created by The Jed Foundation (JED) and AASA, The School Superintendents Association is expected to serve more than 356-thousand students from 480 schools across 14 states and is expected to last two years. Silvis School District Superintendent Dr. Terri Vanderwiele says they are focused on helping their pre-k- 8th grade students with the effects of social media and more. According to the JED Foundation, suicides among children in elementary schools have increased by 15% per year. Click here to read. Many state and federal grant projects are approaching a June 30 end date for obligating FY 2024 grant funds. All state and federal project end date extension requests and final budget amendments must be received by ISBE no later than 30 calendar days prior to the end date of the project. Final amendments for state and federal grants with a project end date of June 30, 2024, must be received by ISBE no later than May 31. Amendments for grants with a project end date of Aug. 31, 2024, must be submitted by Aug. 1. However, budget increases for FY 2024 state-funded grant projects must be received by June 30, even if the project end date has been extended. Apply for School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant ISBE was awarded a School Breakfast Program Expansion Grant, which will be used to provide sub-grants to Local Education Agencies (LEAs), not to exceed $10,000 per qualifying school or group of qualifying schools, to establish, maintain, or expand the School Breakfast Program. Eligible applicants of this funding opportunity are School Food Authorities (SFAs) in Illinois with a qualifying school or group of qualifying schools. The term “qualifying school” means a school in severe need. This includes only schools (having a School Breakfast Program or desiring to initiate a School Breakfast Program) in which 40 percent or more of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) lunches served to students at the school were served free or at a reduced price.
