Fenton High School in west suburban DuPage County is a home for new beginnings. Nearly a third of our students came to Bensenville from countries all over the globe, including Mexico, South America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Fenton welcomed several additional families who fled their homes in search of safety. Led by counselors Maia Whalen and Paul Welsh, a group of our Ukrainian students who arrived before and after the invasion worked together to create a video for Fenton’s January 9 staff institute day. This video featured their personal stories and the perils some of their families still face in Ukraine, thus providing our staff with a better understanding of how to potentially meet their unique needs.
