Leadership Matters Summer 2015

Greatest Achievement/ Accomplishment

Somonauk 432 Dr. Dawn Green, superintendent

In answering the question what has been your district’s greatest achievement or accomplishment, I would have to say having the courage to try new curriculum ideas to align with the new learning standards. We added a specialized math teacher to teach 3rd and 4th grade math only and we we added an instructional coach to help our teachers adapt their curriculum and assessments to the new learning standards. We did this without adding any new staff or additional costs. Without a doubt, we all agree that what and how we are teaching our students now is better than ever! So proud of our staff!

Smithton 130 Susan Homes, superintendent

Our greatest accomplishment this year has been the school and community-wide support for one of our 2nd graders who was diagnosed with cancer. The student body has supported him thoughout his treatments. His story even touched the heart of a police officer in Dallas, Texas, who drove to our community on his own time to bring some joy to the student. Smithton School is TEAM BRYCE. Bryce is our Super Hero! This is just one example of why our school was also recently honored as a HOME RUN SCHOOL OF CHARACTER by the Gateway Grizzlies Baseball Team, the GCS Credit Union, and the CharacterPlus organization.
