AASAUnveils School Safetyand CrisisOnlineToolkit

Illinois Superintendent of theYear ApplicationsAcceptedThrough August 27th Applications for the 2019 Illinois Superintendent of the Year will be accepted through August 27, 2018. The online application procedures can be accessed here . The Illinois Superintendent of the Year program is part of the AASA National Superintendent of the Year program designed to recognize the outstanding leadership of active, front-line school superintendents. A superintendent does not need to be nominated to submit an application. The completed application should include a video of not more than two minutes or a text compilation of the candidate’s work associated with IASA as well as the signed acknowledgment form. That is in addition to the items required by AASA, which includes a video highlighting the candidate’s accomplishments. The Illinois Superintendent of the Year Selection Committee will review the applications and will select the state winner in September. The Illinois Superintendent of the Year will be announced in November at the Joint Annual Conference in Chicago. The winner will be eligible for consideration of the AASA National Superintendent of the Year award, which will be announced at the National Conference on Education in Los Angeles, California, February 14–16, 2019. The American Association of School Administrators has launched the School Safety & Crisis Planning Toolkit, a comprehensive set of online resources designed to help superintendents and other district administrators with proactive best practices before, during and after a crisis. Designed by AASA, this package features a myriad of resources as well as a select group of safety leaders throughout the U.S. who are ready to provide peer-to- peer guidance about a variety of crises.AASA thanks the following organizations that contributed to this project including: the American School Counselor Association, the National Association of School Psychologists, the National School Boards Association, the National School Public Relations Association and CrisisGo, an AASA School Solutions partner. The American Association of School Administrators has launched the “Leaders Matter” campaign to document and disseminate how the work of superintendents and their respective educator teams and school systems are essential to securing and sustaining student learning. This campaign is designed to highlight the success stories being generated by public school districts across the country.
