IASA offers two ways to acquire 2013‐2014 Principal EvaluaƟon Tool The IASA is pleased to
announce that members once again have an opportunity to acquire the IASA Principal Evaluation Tool. There are now two methods for acquiring the 2013 -2014 IASA Principal Evaluation Tool. IASA members can attend a three-hour workshop or members can purchase the tool outright. A listing of dates and registration information for the workshops can be found
here . The evaluation tool has been updated with several new tips that will help users comply with the requirements of PERA, suggested improvements from users of last year’s tool, and the addition of an informal observation form that can be used to share notes with those being evaluated. The tool can be acquired by attending one of the scheduled workshops, or you can submit a request to purchase the tool by submitting the form here or by visiting http://bit.ly/ iasaprincipalevaluationtool . The registration cost for
the workshop is $200 and will be facilitated by the developers of the tool, Dr. Don White, and Dr. Joe Pacha. The tool is included in the cost of the workshop. The price for purchasing the file online remains $100, the same as last year.

James V. and Dorothy B. Moon Scholarship program available
Are you a superintendent or an aspiring superintendent? Are you pursuing graduate study to become the best superintendent you can be? Do you know there are scholarships available through IASA to help offset the costs of your coursework? Established in 1993 in memory of Dr. James V. Moon, a former superintendent at Morton High School District, the James V. and Dorothy B. Moon Scholarship program is committed to improving the education and qualifications of school administrators. Since its inception, 67 scholarships totaling nearly $143,000 have been awarded to current or aspiring superintendents.
Practicing school administrators in Illinois qualify if they are college graduates pursuing an advanced degree in educational administration at an accredited college or university. Several scholarships ($2,500 minimum each) are awarded each year and are paid directly to the college or university to cover tuition, fees and/or textbook expenses. A copy of the applicant qualifications, process and 2014 Application are available by clicking here . Applications are due no later than January 10, 2014. To get more information on the application and awards process, contact Cherry Middleton at 217/753-2213 or cmiddleton@iasaedu.org .

Coaching for Leaders program offered in Mundelein A Coaching for Leaders Program is being offered through Cardinal Stritch University with the next session being hosted by Fremont School District in Mundelein. All interested parties are invited to attend. The purpose of the program is to build skills as a leader and a coach so that participants can then build leadership capacity in others. The cost of the training is $2900 per participant and includes eight days of training, certification, and a personal coach for the duration of the training. The model for the training is 1) see a coach, 2) have a coach and 3) be a coach and it blends cutting edge research on leadership with hands on coach training by a certified Master Coach. Dates for the upcoming training are October 16, 17; November 13, 14; December 16, 17; February 19, 20. Getting to know your IASA Board Members Name Name X Region School district: West Prairie Community Unit School District 103 Favorite book: Round the Bend , by Nevil Shute Favorite musical artist: Miles Davis
One thing people probably would be surprised to know about you: I have an Illinois teaching certificate for aircraft maintenance. Biggest concern about public education: We are selling the future of education to private contractors and large education corporations that care more about marketing than best practices. Changes are coming from interest group lobbying rather than from research developed within the profession. Most encouraging thing about public education: Our schools focus on the educational needs of the individual child. We believe that every kid has the opportunity to do his or her best in our schools and do our part to make that happen.
One thing you would like people to know about your school district: West Prairie schools have received twelve Illinois Honor Roll awards since 2007. Our one-to-one technology program is now in place in grades five through twelve. Years on IASA Board: 1 Years as educator: 35 Colleges or Universities: Concordia Senior Family: Married to Chris for forty-one years. Two married sons, one in Erie, Pennsylvania, and the other in San Jose, California. No grandkids. Favorite hobby: Playing my trumpet Favorite movie: Hah! I won’t say. I have seen it at least 25 times, though. College, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, Saint Louis University
